The Brother I Always Wanted
I’ve always wanted a brother. My sister is tougher than 99.9% of men I know, but still I have this idealized image of what it would be like to have a protective older brother. Plus, I thought there would be the added benefit of having his friends around the house. Now I finally have a brother and it’s certainly not what I expected — a Korean fourth grader named Mingue (민교). Mingue’s an interesting fellow so I’m going to devote this post to our relationship.
City Guide Review: Sulbing (Busan)
Sulbing is cozy and comfortable, but always bustling and busy, and for good reason. It’s the traditional Korean dessert of bingsoo (빙수), but with shaved milk instead of shaved ice and generous heapings of injeomi (인절미), sticky rice cake with sweet bean powder over it.

Here is what I knew: my host mother and I would be volunteering, my 12-year-old host brother would be coming along, and that’s about it. Accepting the fact that I’d find out when we got there, I sat in the front seat and tuned out all but the patter of rain as we drove through the countryside, my host mother and brother chatting boisterously between the front and back seats.
