City Guide Restaurant Review: Goong Joong Samgyetang / 궁중 삼계탕 (Daejeon)
Samgyetang is a Korean soup dish that consists of a whole, young chicken stuffed with rice and broth flavored with ginseng, garlic, ginger and jujube fruit. Korean people often attribute curative and regenerative properties to a hearty bowl of samgyetang, preferring to eat it on the hottest days of summer. I, however, crave chicken soup when the weather becomes cold, and a good serving of samgyetang is the perfect fix for the winter blues.
City Guide Review: Doogie Board Game Cafe (Busan)
This is a board game cafe, so they don’t specialize in food. It costs 2400KRW for one hour and 2000KRW for each hour after that. A friend and I played Ticket to Ride, Set, and a couple other fun, short games for a little over two hours and it came out to 5000KRW each. (Weekdays have a cheaper fare.) Besides games, they provide free cold drinks (juice, water, etc.), and you can purchase other drinks, beer, tea, or snacks from the snack bar. The atmosphere is friendly and warm; the “waiters” help you set up your games and can explain gameplay for any game. One waitress speaks English well. The games themselves are in excellent condition.
City Guide Restaurant Review: Eat Me Pizzeria (Daejeon)
Eat Me Pizzeria is a favorite with local waygooks, offering a large menu of pasta, risotto and pizza at a reasonable price. The restaurant’s interior is warm and inviting, and the seats near the window offer a view of the downtown streets. The restaurant was relatively empty when we went on a weekend night, and they were able to accommodate a large party of ten by pushing together a few tables. The service was attentive.
